Following a “event” that occurred the previous week and was examined by Cricket Australia, Afghanistan international Fazalhaq Farooqi was dismissed from his position with the Sydney Thunder of the Big Bash League on Friday.
The club “got a complaint concerning the behaviour of Farooqi following an incident that occurred last Thursday,” which prompted the decision to terminate the fast bowler’s contract.
Thunder reported the incident to the Integrity Unit of Cricket Australia for further inquiry, and after the hearing, they dismissed him from their team.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket NSW noted that the decision to terminate Fazalhaq Farooqi’s contract was made because “the behaviours demonstrated by Fazalhaq Farooqi fell outside our values.”
“Our primary focus at this time is on offering the appropriate support to people who have been impacted by this occurrence.”
Cricket Australia stated that the situation was confidential, and that the organisation would make no more comments.
Farooqi, who is 22 years old, has appeared in 10 one-day matches and 17 Twenty20 matches for Afghanistan. He bowled exceptionally well in the most recent World Cup, which was held in Australia.
Last month, when he was signed by the Thunder, they referred to him as “an rising talent.”
