England’s Joe Root took Marnus Labuschagne‘s place at the top of the ICC Rankings for Test batters after six months. After the exciting first Ashes Test, which was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham, there was a big change at the top of the ranks.
Labuschagne became the first player in December 2022 because he was so good with the bat.
But Joe Root has taken over the top spot in the rankings after a lacklustre start to 2023 and a string of strong efforts in tests.
In the first Ashes Test, which just ended, Joe Root scored 118 runs without being out and 46 runs in the second test. The flashy right-hander scored his 30th Test century in the process, making him the best batter in the world according to the ICC Test rankings.
Labuschagne, on the other hand, dropped two spots to third place with 877 rating points after getting terrible scores of 0 and 13 against the English team. Kane Williamson of New Zealand moved up to second place in the new ranks.
The ICC scores for Steve Smith and Travis Head go down.
Not only did Labuschagne fall from third to fourth place, but Travis Head did the same, even though he got a fifty against England. Steve Smith also fell a lot in the rankings. With 16 and 6 runs at Edgbaston, he went from being in second place to being in sixth place.
Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, stayed in the same place. He still has 862 rating points and is in fifth place. There weren’t many changes in the bowling rankings for Tests. Ravichandran Ashwin and James Anderson, who has been bowling fast for a long time, stayed in first and second place, respectively.
But Ollie Robinson moved up to fifth place after taking five wickets against Australia. Even though Pat Cummins took four wickets, he fell to fourth place, putting Kagiso Rabada of the Proteas in third.
