After a 21-run victory over Ireland in the first T20, South Africa advances to the second round

Both Hendricks and Markram were dismissed by the spin bowler Gareth Delany in the 16th over, when he bowled them both with successive balls.

South Africa defeated Ireland by 21 runs on Wednesday in the first of two Twenty20 internationals. Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram each scored fifty runs to contribute to South Africa’s victory. During the day-night match in Bristol, Hendricks smashed 74 runs off 53 balls to help the Proteas reach 211 for five. Hendricks was a standout performer for his side in their recent series victory over England.

The opener contributed 112 runs to the third-wicket stand that was shared with Markram, who scored 56 runs off of only 27 deliveries. Both Hendricks and Markram were dismissed by the spin bowler Gareth Delany in the 16th over, when he bowled them both with successive balls.

During Ireland’s chase, No. 3 Lorcan Tucker scored a remarkable 78 off just 38 deliveries, including seven fours and five sixes, and George Dockrell contributed 43 runs to the total. However, Tabraiz Shamsi and Dwaine Pretorius, in that order, were able to take both of them out in the span of three balls.
