It was previously reported by Cricbuzz that the BCB is unsure about the Afghanistan series. However, it was also revealed that ACB representatives spoke with their Bangladeshi counterparts on Thursday, June 27, in order to determine a new date for the series.
The forthcoming white-ball series against Afghanistan has been postponed, but authorities from the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday that they have given No-Objection certificates to a number of national cricket players so they can play in different franchise leagues.
BCB was hesitant to play the series because of weather reports suggesting rain in Greater Noida around that time of year. BCB had previously announced that their all-format away series against Afghanistan in July had been delayed.
After the ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh was supposed to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is against ACB.
Later, the ACB created a fresh schedule for the BCB, and as per that draft schedule obtained by Cricbuzz, Greater Noida would host three One-Day Internationals and the same number of Twenty20 Internationals between July 25 and August 6.
But once the two boards decided to postpone the series, BCB gave some cricket players NOCs.
“We weren’t prepared to play the series against Afghanistan in July since there was rain in Greater Noida at that time of year,” BCB’s cricket operations chief Shahriar Nafees said to Cricbuzz on Thursday.
“After both boards agreed to reschedule the series at some other convenient time we decided to provide NOC to our cricketers after they applied for it,” he stated.
“When they (cricketers) came to know that the white-ball series against Afghanistan will not be played in July they decided to apply for NOC to take part in different franchise-based T20 tournament,” he stated.
“It is not a fact players were reluctant to perform national duty and play in the franchise leagues because we issued the NOC only yesterday (June 25),” he said.
The Lanka Premier League, which takes place from July 1–21, will feature Taskin Ahmed for the Colombo Strikers and Towhid Hridoy and Mustafizur Rahman for the Dambullah Sixers.
The Bangla Tigers Missisagua have selected Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam for the Global T20 Canada League, which begins on 25 July. Meanwhile, the Montreal Tigers and Toronto Nationals will field Muhammad Saifuddin and Rishad Hossain, respectively.
Beginning on July 5, Shakib is anticipated to play for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.
The two Test matches will be played at a later date, an ACB official recently informed Cricbuzz, adding that they have no other window of opportunity to play the white-ball series than this July.
Given that numerous national cricket players are anticipated to play for various clubs in the LPL, Canada Global T20 League, and MLC, it is considered that the series’ rescheduling also provided opportunities for Afghan cricketers.
