The teams for the forthcoming Afghanistan and Ireland series, which is scheduled to start on September 18, were revealed by South Africa. The Proteas will play a two-match T20I and a three-match ODI series against Ireland in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the Temba Bavuma-led team plays a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
For the UAE tour, South Africa has rested a number of their first-choice players. Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Gerald Coetzee, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, and others will not play in either series because the team management has chosen to provide young players with opportunities in order to diversify their player pool.
Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram, two notable veterans, are playing in the One-Day International series against Afghanistan but have been rested for the One-Day International series against Ireland. Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton, on the other hand, will play the One-Day Internationals against Ireland rather than Afghanistan.
Rob Walter, the head coach of South Africa’s white-ball team, said that the country intended to offer the young players more chances while keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind. He continued by saying that the seniors have been replaced by players who have recently pleased the club management.

We have made the decision to offer opportunities to both the underperforming players and those who have shown promise in the last few weeks and months. The management made this intentional decision with the intention of expanding the pool of players available for selection as we gear up for the key ICC competitions that will take place over the following 18 months, with an eye towards the 50-over World Cup in 2027, according to a statement attributed to Walter.
