Former cricketer Michael Vaughan poked fun at Virat Kohli after senior England batsman Joe Root scored two hundred against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Lord’s. Root scored his 34th Test century during the match, and he now has five more than Kohli. Vaughan brought this out on Twitter (now X), and the post quickly gained popularity on social media.
After the second Test, Adam Gilchrist, a former cricket player for Australia, also weighed in on the Kohli-Root argument. When asked to choose between the two, the wicket-keeper batsman found it simple to go with Kohli in Twenty20 and One-Day International cricket, but he pointed out that Root had the upper hand in recent years in Test cricket.
“In the last little while, undoubtedly. Joe Root has the best stats of any player England has ever had over a lengthy stretch of time, according to Adam Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Podcast.
The anchor, however, modified the question and requested that the visitors select one appropriate for Australian conditions. Gilchrist then brought up the fact that Root has never scored a century in Australia, whereas Kohli has six. He praised the brilliant India batsman’s 123-run innings against Australia in Perth, calling it one of his all-time greatest hundreds. In Australian circumstances, he chose Kohli over Root for the same reason.
The first Test match to be played at Perth Stadium saw one of the finest tonnes I’ve ever seen, so that was definitely different gravy. Gilchrist remarked, “I’d probably say Virat.”Vaughan, who was also in attendance, concurred with the legendary player from Australia.
While agreeing with Gilchrist, Vaughan stated that, absent Australian circumstances, he would prefer Root to Kohli in any other region of the world. In Australia, I wouldn’t contest that. If I were playing against the Aussies, I would pick Virat, but if not, I would go with Joe Root,” Vaughan stated.

Over the course of the next five months, Kohli will participate in ten Test matches and will have the chance to surpass Root in the list of active cricketers with the most centuries. It won’t be simple for him to score six tonnes, though, in order to accomplish that.
