The first ever Women’s Indian Premier League event is scheduled to take place in March of 2023, and the BCCI is pulling out all the stops to ensure that the competition is a smashing success in its debut season.
Now, various sources have stated that the Indian cricket board would hold an auction for five different franchises, and the starting price for each franchise has been set at Rs. 400 crore.
The cricket board is planning to soon release the tender paperwork for the electronic auction. All of the current IPL franchises are eligible to take part in the online auction as well.
At the 91st Annual General Meeting, which took place on October 18 in Mumbai, the General Body of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave their blessing for the Women’s Indian Premier League to go ahead and be played. This means that the much-anticipated tournament will finally take place.
It has been confirmed that the event will in fact go place, as stated in an official press release that was published by the board. According to what was stated in the release, “The General Body approved to conduct the Women’s Indian Premier League.”
The competition will consist of twenty league games, and each team will face the other teams in the competition twice. The teams that finish in first, second, and third place will compete in an elimination round to determine who will advance to the championship round. The table-toppers will receive an automatic berth into the championship round. There can be no more than five international cricketers playing for any one team in the playing eleven.
“It has been decided provisionally to have five teams for the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) in order to achieve a healthy balance of both domestic and international players and to field competitive teams.
Each team is permitted to have a maximum of eighteen players, and no team may have more than six players from outside of the country “according to a note that the BCCI distributed to all of the state organisations.
The expansion of the sport in India, which was sparked by the country’s performance as the runner-up at the 2020 T20 World Cup, has led to an increase in the number of people calling for a women’s equivalent of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
While the Women’s Big Bash League has been played in Australia since 2016, the Hundred was first played for the first time in the United Kingdom in 2018. In addition, Pakistan has revealed plans for a women’s league to begin play in 2019.
