The illustrious Virat Kohli appears to have found his way back to his previous level of play, as he has scored hundreds in his most recent matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
However, with the upcoming Test series against Australia right around the horizon, Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, is hoping that Virat would improve and start providing results in the test matches as well.
Kohli’s batting has recently shown signs of life, as he has scored hundreds in both one-day internationals and twenty-over matches. However, the 33-year-old has not yet rediscovered his golden touch in the format of the test matches.
During an interview with India Today, Ganguly laid out in a clear and concise manner what he anticipates from Kohli. He stated that Virat’s performance is crucial to the success of Indian cricket, which is why he needs to begin scoring runs in tests as well.
“Virat Kohli is doing terrific. In his matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, he has performed admirably. As a member of the Indian cricket team, he also needs to perform well in test matches because the squad relies on him.
The Australia series is almost here, and I have high hopes that it will be an excellent instalment. I would like to see India and Australia compete against each other in the final of the World Test Championship “Ganguly added.
Ganguly was also questioned over the prospects of the Indian team competing in this year’s One-Day International World Cup. The previous president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave off an air of supreme assurance.
“Indian side is quite strong. There is no way India has a weak team. A large number of people in our nation participate in the sport of cricket. The level of competition is so fierce that only half of them are given the opportunity to try out for the national squad.
I hope that this team continues to compete until the World Cup. I hope that the selectors and Rahul Dravid would decide to keep this team together all the way up until the World Cup. They shouldn’t worry too much about the World Cup because all they have to do is perform well “Dada made the assertion.
