Aakash Chopra on KL Rahul as Zimbabwe ODI captain

Aakash Chopra, a former opening batter for India, stated that if it were up to him, he would not have replaced Shikhar Dhawan as the skipper for the one-day international series against Zimbabwe.

Aakash Chopra, a former opening batter for India, has stated that he would have preferred to keep Shikhar Dhawan in his position as captain for the next one-day international series against Zimbabwe, which will begin on August 18. Dhawan was designated captain of the team when the squad for the series was initially released, however Rahul’s name was left out of the roster entirely. However, earlier this week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Rahul has been deemed fit to play and will join the squad as captain, with Dhawan acting as his deputy. This news came just a few days after the BCCI announced that Rahul would be replaced as captain by Kohli.

Chopra was asked about Rahul taking over for Dhawan as the tour captain, and he responded by saying, “If it was in my hands, I would have avoided that.”

“I am aware that Rahul is the vice-captain for the Asia Cup, but there is another reality that there are presently 8–10 captains in the team. Originally, he (Rahul) was not named in the squad for the Zimbabwe series. The captaincy has been held by Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, and I do not believe that Suryakumar is too far away from taking over. The current captain is Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli has served in this role in the past. It was of no consequence, and this inconvenience might have been avoided “Chopra stated this in a video that was uploaded to his official channel on YouTube.

“If Shikhar Dhawan is the team captain, then what difference does it make that he is an older player? Whether or not KL Rahul is the captain of the team, he is capable of playing only in the role of batter. If you had proclaimed Shikhar Dhawan as the captain, you could have continued with it and let it be; otherwise, you could have let it go. Dhawan, in my opinion, should have continued to serve as the team’s captain “He stated once more.

On August 18, 20, and 22, the three one-day internationals will take place at the Harare Sports Club.

“K.L. Rahul has been examined by the medical staff of the BCCI, and they have given him the all-clear to play in the one-day international series that will take place in Zimbabwe. He has been given the role of team captain by the All-India Senior Selection Committee, and Shikhar Dhawan has been chosen to serve as his deputy “according to a statement issued by the BCCI.

Team India Squad: KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
