Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player from India, offered his perspective on the aforementioned situation during his panel analysis. Several dramatic moments occurred during the third and final Twenty20 International match between India and Afghanistan, which was played on January 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Two Super Overs were played in order to determine the result of the match. Ultimately, India prevailed, winning the second Super Over by a margin of 10 runs.
After being retired out of the first Super Over, Rohit Sharma batted in the second, drawing criticism from both the umpires and the Indian captain. He said that the opening batsman shouldn’t be permitted to bat. The 46-year-old acknowledged the match official’s explanation that he had checked with the Afghanistan captain and coach to see if they had any objections, but he still said it was a bad mistake.
“Rohit Sharma has officially retired. Retired hurt indicates that you should have an external injury on the playing field, in which case the umpires should permit you to bat once more. When you retire, your time on earth is up and you are not allowed to return. I therefore stated on commentary that he couldn’t come to bat as soon as he left. The reason it’s over is that he lost his wicket. When Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma returned, I believed something was off. According to the rules, Rohit Sharma shouldn’t have been permitted to bat,” Chopra was heard stating on his YouTube channel.
When Rinku exited, Sanju Samson arrived, and I was startled: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra went on to discuss India’s choice, following Rinku Singh’s out, to insert Sanju Samson as the third batter in the second Super Over. Given his ability to handle left-arm pace and the fact that Afghanistan’s bowler, Fareed Ahmad, was a left-arm bowler, the former cricket player claimed that Shivam Dube would have been sent off rather than the wicketkeeper-batter.
“I was taken aback when Sanju Samson arrived as Rinku was leaving. Nothing personal against Sanju, but he was already out for a duck on the first ball. He was out on the first ball, so he didn’t have much opportunity to bat. When Shivam Dube was waiting, you failed to dispatch him. I saw Fareed Ahmad bowling. Dube also hits at a left-arm tempo. It astonished me. We only managed to score 11 runs. We were bowled out on the fifth delivery itself, so we didn’t even get to play the full six balls,” he added.
