Sam Curran, an all-rounder for England, is expecting to obtain a fair contract at the Indian Premier League auction on Friday. However, he acknowledges that the fact that he is in the same “bracket” as Ben Stokes and a few other players may hinder his prospects.
The auction for the Indian Premier League will take place in Kochi, and all-rounders like Stokes and Cameron Green of Australia, amongst others, are anticipated to make a lot of money thanks to the fact that various teams hope to pay a lot on them.
Sam Curran, whose base price is Rs 2 crore, has the potential to significantly increase his earnings through the auction, and the 24-year-old player has stated that he will be paying close attention to the drama as it unfolds on television.
“I’ve participated in several auctions in the past, and each time, you start with a base price. I’ll be following along (on the auction) on the television.
In the video that was published by ‘The Telegraph,’ Curran can be heard saying, “On Friday morning, I imagine, when your name comes up, you just say ‘keep the paddle up there.'”
Sam Curran, who was acquired by Punjab Kings for a mind-boggling Rs 7.2 crore, which was the third-highest bid in the auctions leading up to the 2019 Indian Premier League, said that he was pretty hopeful of securing a solid deal.
“In the beginning, you have to be selected. Obviously, I’m holding out hope that I’ll be able to go somewhere. But I suppose that’s just one of those things, like how I’m in the same bracket as (Ben) Stokes and a few other all-rounders, who have recently come out, and I suppose that’s how they function in sets. Therefore, anything might take place,” he continued.
Sam Curran was released by Punjab Kings in advance of the 2020 season. However, the fast bowling all-rounder, who had a base price of Rs 1 crore, was eventually sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 5.5 crore.
Since Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League, the four-time defending champions of the IPL, the Chennai Super Kings, are in the process of rebuilding after finishing ninth in the IPL 2022 and could once again target Curran. The player from England would be a good fit for them given his history of success while playing for them.
Curran remarked that the manner in which England’s side was playing during its astonishing 3-0 victory over Pakistan in the Test series was just astounding.
It’s been really insane. Having played under both Brendon McCullum (head coach) and Stokes (Test skipper), I can say with confidence that the manner they have been playing recently is incredible.
It (the winning run) began in the summer, and the nicest part about it, I believe, is that there have been quite a few injuries, and individuals like Jonny Bairstow, who probably started it (winning streak) and came out and gave that confidence, he has missed out on it (due to a freak injury).
“(Now), you’ve got Brooky (Harry Brook) coming in and getting three hundreds in Pakistan, and he’s kind of thinking, ‘how would Jonny get back?’ “I can’t even fathom how incredible it is,” Curran exclaimed.
“I suppose everyone believed that Pakistan is an incredibly difficult location to travel there. To triumph, though, is an extraordinary accomplishment.
