Two individuals who could succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s all-around captain are the ones selected by former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik. The veteran did not, however, mention KL Rahul or Jasprit Bumrah.
After leading India to the T20 World Cup championship earlier this year, Rohit announced his retirement from Twenty20 international cricket. In the game’s shortest format, India’s new captain is Suryakumar Yadav, who defeated Hardik Pandya. In both Tests and ODIs, Rohit still leads India as captain. Karthik mentioned Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant as possible candidates to assume the esteemed position in the future, but the BCCI has traditionally favoured all-format captains.
“I can immediately think of two young players who possess immense potential and who I am sure will lead India in all formats in the near future.” Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the two. They have both captained India and are IPL team captains.
They have the potential to lead India in all formats at some point, in my opinion, Dinesh Karthik stated on the ‘HEY CB with DK’ program.
Since making his international debut in February 2017, the 26-year-old Pant has participated in 33 Tests, 31 ODIs, and 76 T20Is. Since January 2019, 25 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 21 T20Is have been played by the 25-year-old Gill on behalf of the Men in Blue.
In Test cricket, Pant has performed brilliantly, saving India from defeat in multiple encounters. Though he averages 33.50 in ODIs and 23.25 in T20Is, his spot in the white-ball setups is in jeopardy. Gill, on the other hand, averages a good 58.20 in ODIs but drops to 35.52 in Tests and even lower to 30.42 in the shortest format.
Last week, during India A vs. India B’s first-round match, the two players were in action. In the four-day match held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Gill captained India A.

Pant was a player for India B, which was coached by Abhimanyu Easwaran, in the interim. They took all six points from the game with a 76-run victory against the opposition.
