In the final over of India vs. South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, Rishabh Pant remembered Suryakumar Yadav‘s incredible catch on the boundary line.
With one of their most seasoned finishers, David Miller, taking on Hardik Pandya in the final over, the Proteas needed 16 runs to win. Miller tried to knock the low full delivery bowled by the Baroda all-rounder straight down the ground for a six. But because he was unable to make a clean connection with the ball, Suryakumar was able to make an incredible running catch at long-off. India won the game by seven runs after this dismissal completely changed the course of the match.
The batter-wicketkeeper acknowledged that he thought the ball was about to go over the fence until Suryakumar intercepted it.
Rishabh Pant stated that while he will always remember the day he won the World Cup, he would prefer to concentrate on upcoming tasks.
“Everything seemed to vanish while the ball was in the air. Upon striking the bat, it appeared to be a certain six. Pant stated on Tanmay Bhatt’s YouTube channel, “The Indian fans’ prayers prevented the ball from crossing the boundary line.
“I don’t think about it too much right now because I feel that in India, people forget what you did within ten to fifteen days. Therefore, it’s crucial that you also forget these things. I will always cherish that moment, but for now, we must move on and concentrate on the here and now,” Pant remarked.
The Haridwar native has, however, made his Test team comeback for the first time since December 2022. For the first Test match between India and Bangladesh, which gets underway on Thursday, September 19, the BCCI selected a 16-man team.

India has two alternatives for wicketkeeping: Pant and Dhruv Jurel. When India A and India B faced off in the Duleep Trophy 2024 last week, both of them were in action. Although Jurel was a good wicketkeeper, he was ineffective at the bat both times. In the meantime, Pant assisted India B skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran with the DRS calls in addition to scoring a scorching half-century in the second innings.
