Cricket players from ICC Associate Member countries, including the best of Canadian talent, have always had a huge platform to exhibit their talents on the stage of North America’s premier T20 league thanks to GT20 Canada. And inspired by the chance to mingle with some of the biggest international stars in the game, a number of Associate cricketers stole the show in the just finished fourth edition of GT20 Canada.
On the tournament run charts, George Munsey of Scotland came in first place, followed by Dilpreet Bajwa of Canada, who came in second. Additionally, players from other Associate countries have become well-known. Romario Shepherd finished first in the season’s wicket total, with Junaid Siddique of the United Arab Emirates taking second place.
Munsey, a player for the Brampton Wolves, was the only hitter in the just ended season to score two fifties. In six innings, Munsey scored 218 runs at a strike percentage of 135.40.
In the season, the 21-year-old Bajwa also passed the 200 run threshold. His 206 runs came in difficult batting circumstances at a noteworthy strike rate of 145.07. In a match against the David Warner-led Brampton Wolves, he also hit the lone century of the fourth season, needing just 55 balls to get his undefeated hundred for the Montreal Tigers.
Both Bajwa and his Montreal Tigers teammate Kaleem Sana represented Canada in the most recent T20 World Cup. Sana’s nine wickets at an economy rate of just 4.47 placed him just behind the renowned Caribbean T20 spinner Sunil Narine, who claimed ten. Against the Toronto Nationals, left-arm bowler Sana claimed a spectacular hat-trick and then took another wicket to make it four wickets in five balls.
Siddique, meanwhile, got off to a great start with the Toronto Nationals, claiming 14 wickets altogether after collecting three wickets in four deliveries against the Vancouver Knights. Draca contributed significantly to Brampton Wolves’ season with 11 hits, including three vital three-wicket victories.
