After Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the team’s new head coach, former cricketer Robin Uthappa recently took centre stage and paid tribute to the player. Gambhir’s first game as the Indian team’s head coach was an outstanding 3-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 International series.
Though despite Sri Lanka’s incredible comeback to win the second and third ODIs following a drawn opening game, he did lose the next ODI series.
Regarding his term thus far, Uthappa expressed his opinion that Gambhir is the kind of man who does not hesitate to grasp any given opportunity. The former opener was described by him as a master strategist.
“Gambhir will look for significant opportunities and make an effort to take them.” I can attest to his leadership skills and ability to foster an atmosphere where people can flourish. He is that kind of leader—not just a superb captain, but also a superb tactical and a remarkable people leader,” Uthappa stated to the Times of India.
“He cultivates a successful culture within the group. We have seen that Gautam Gambhir is a leader who gives his players security,” Uthappa continued.
Remarkably, Uthappa has been in the dressing room alongside Gambhir for both the Indian national team and the Kolkata Knight Riders during the Indian Premier League for a considerable amount of time. Together, the two players captured the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2014 IPL championship.
Robin Uthappa expressed his opinion that Gambhir will try to maximise the pressure that will be placed on him following India’s recent ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka.

He is someone who has always done well under duress and has actively sought out large platforms on which to perform. I think he has the same leadership skills in this group, as far as I’m concerned,” Uthappa continued.
