The dynamic duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma laughed merrily over an inventive fan poster during the opening One-Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on August 02, 2024. The event, which happened just as the Indian squad was taking the pitch, has since gained widespread attention on social media.
Virat Kohli gaze was drawn to a fan’s poster in the stands as the Indian cricket players gathered close to the boundary ropes.
He then informed Sharma about what he had observed: a recreated poster of the classic Bollywood film “Lagaan,” in which the players on the Indian cricket team today were dressed as movie characters.
The poster for the film, “Modern Day Lagaan Warriors,” deftly substituted Indian captain Sharma’s face for that of Aamir Khan, the film’s main actor. In a similar manner, other team members were included in the poster. Both players were immediately drawn in by the imaginative artwork and couldn’t help but laugh.

After the Men in Blue defeated England in the ODI World Cup, the redesigned poster went viral the previous year. In the Indian ICC tournament, Rohit and Kohli scored the most runs. India, captained by the 37-year-old, won the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies in June, earning their second T20 World Cup championship.
In the second ODI, Sri Lanka defeated India.
A total of 230/8 was made by the hosts in the allowed 50 overs of the first ODI, making it an unforgettable match. The game ultimately ended in a stalemate because the Indian hitters were unable to build on their captain’s early innings.

In their 50 overs, Charith Asalanka & Co. scored 240/9 to win the second ODI. India’s pursuit got off to a strong start as Sharma (64), together with Shubman Gill (35), formed a strong opening pair. The island nation won the game by 32 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series, but in the end, the side was bowled out for 208 runs.
