Along with MS Dhoni, former India head coach Ravi Shastri praised Rohit Sharma and said he will go down as one of the greatest leaders of all time. India played in the World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup finals in 2023 and recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 under Sharma’s direction. In addition to being a key member of the national squad in the current WTC cycle and the forthcoming Champions Trophy in 2025, he assisted Mumbai Indians in winning five IPL trophies.
Shastri described Rohit as a master strategist as well. In white-ball cricket, the 37-year-old chose an aggressive strategy that has recently produced dividends for the Indian squad. He played a masterful role in both India’s 2024 T20 World Cup strategy and their successful defence of 30 runs in five overs against South Africa during the finals. Shastri praised Rohit for his tactical acumen, saying he is on par with Dhoni.
Let’s not overlook the fact that he has been an exceptional man as a tactician. With Dhoni, he will be remembered as one of the greatest captains of all time.
When it comes to the white-ball game, both of them are equal in my opinion in terms of strategy. You know what MS has accomplished and the trophies he has won, so I can’t pay Rohit a higher tribute than that,” Shastri stated on the ICC Review.
In my opinion, he was really excellent tactically during this year’s World Cup: Ravi Shastri
The timely return of Jasprit Bumrah enabled India to win the T20 World Cup in Barbados. In the championship game, Rohit also made effective use of Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya, which Shastri claims ultimately contributed to India’s victory.

“Rohit is not far behind, and in my opinion, he was very excellent tactically during the World Cup this year (T20).” It was wonderful to witness the serenity and the capacity to obtain a Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, or even an Axar Patel when necessary, he said.
