After the Indian team won their maiden T20I series under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, an ex-cricketer, Andy Flower recently hailed the recently appointed head coach of the team. Gambhir’s first assignment with the cricketing superpower was the tour of Sri Lanka.
Flower emphasised that Gautam Gambhir, had a number of attributes that make him a successful coach.
Then he asked a rhetorical question about Gambhir’s scant coaching background, and it was true. The legendary Zimbabwean player went on to say that Gambhir wasn’t your typical coach and that it would be more appropriate to refer to him as a “inspirational leader” instead of a “coach.”
He undoubtedly possesses some of the qualities that make a good coach. But he hasn’t actually been a coach, has he? He is not your typical trainer. I think it would be more accurate to define him as an inspirational leader rather than a coach. That could be a more true statement,” said Flower, cited by

The Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach added that Gambhir had a strong sense of self-belief and an unflinching commitment to his principles. Flower pointed out that Gambhir’s guts to stand by his beliefs will probably inspire others to do the same. He also said that Gambhir was a man full of convictions and a distinct vision for his objectives, and that he was more than prepared to make the difficult decisions. Flower went on to say that Gambhir had a clear idea of the kind of cricket he wanted his team to play, one that guaranteed openness and direction.
“He’s a man who exudes boldness and confidence in his own convictions, which will inspire others to genuinely want to follow him. Teams and followers prefer to believe that their leader has the guts to stand by his convictions. GG undoubtedly possesses that. He holds strong beliefs. He is aware of his destination. He’s prepared to make difficult choices. “He’ll know exactly what kind of cricket he wants his teams to play,” Flower continued.

These qualities might be the crucial elements the Indian team needs to improve as they progress from the thrilling T20I leg of their current tour of Sri Lanka.
