The main lesson from the third Twenty20 International between Sri Lanka and India was to put an end to the current discussion regarding the Indian batters’ poor bowling performance.
When the game reached the Super Over, Washington Sundar said he was unaware that he would be the one in command.
To make matters worse, Suryakumar Yadav forced Rinku Singh to bowl the last over and then scored nine runs off of twelve balls himself in the final over, forcing the visitors to defend.
In the series, Suryakumar displayed his unusual leadership, which was furthered when he turned his back on Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammed Siraj, who each had one over remaining. Additionally, he selected Sundar, a spinner, for the pivotal Super Over. The 24-year-old picked up two wickets and gave up just two runs before India reached the goal in just one delivery thanks to a four from Suryakumar.
“Surya’s leadership abilities were excellent. He probably believed that we would have a strong chance of winning the game if he bowled more spinners given the circumstances. He chose one or two choices, which worked beautifully for us, considering the wicket and the circumstances. Kusal Perera was batting, and there were just twelve balls remaining. After Rinku got him out, Surya entered the game in the final over and nearly won it for us. As reported by Sundar stated, “We all know he has a big heart when he goes out there to bat, but he also has a big heart in leadership.”
To be honest, I didn’t know that I was going to bowl. It was Surya who turned around and said, ‘Washy, you’re on,’ after the batsmen left. I was, to be honest, ecstatic. When bowling is requested by the captain, particularly in difficult circumstances, during a Super Over. I saw it as a fantastic chance for me to win games for my nation and rise forward. Thank God it went smoothly,” he continued.

Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar took on their maiden assignments as head coach and captain, respectively, in the Twenty20 International Series. The pair will head into the forthcoming three-match ODI series with the undefeated tag on their breast after winning the series 3-0. But for the 50-over series, Rohit Sharma will be in charge. Over the last six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between the two teams, India has consistently outperformed the Asian rivals.
