In the just concluded T20 World Cup 2024, USA captain Monank Patel expressed his disappointment at not being able to play against India. The USA, who served as co-hosts of the sport, surprised everyone by defeating Pakistan under the leadership of Babar Azam and making it to the Super Eight round.
Patel recently spoke out, expressing his disappointment at missing the match and his desire to play against players like Jasprit Bumrah and company when the USA faced the Men in Blue.
Notably, the captain was forced to miss the game because of a niggle, therefore Aaron Jones assumed the captaincy. Patel, who is presently playing for MI New York, said it took him a few days to process the news that he would be missing the game.
“It took me almost two days to come to terms with the fact that I wasn’t playing India. As soon as the groups were revealed, I started to picture myself taking on Bumrah and his gang. Monank Patel as saying, “The incessant texts and calls from friends and family were not helping either.”
I had to lock myself in a room and work through it. When the teams lined up for the national anthems, I realised how big of a deal this was. As the USA captain, it would have been a major occasion for me to go out for the toss. However, everything has passed,” he continued.
I was requested to play my game by Rashid: Monank Patel
In relation to the MLC, MI New York recently failed to surpass the 176 runs scored by the Texas Super Kings in the MLC 2024. With 61 runs scored, Monank Patel led his team in scoring. He went so far as to praise Rashid Khan for maintaining his composure and scoring runs.
“I was asked to play my game, which is cricket shots, by Rashid. “I will swing wildly instead of you,” he shouted. “Aap jo karna chah rahe ho woh mein karunga.” Patel remarked, “Rashhid said let’s get 30 in the next two, so we’ll basically have 50 in three.”
