Gambhir and Zaheer Khan, who ended up becoming India’s top wicket-taker in the 2011 ODI World Cup, get along well. It would be interesting if the left-arm seamer took up the job. The southpaw has already discussed the influence Zaheer had on the competition, especially in the final against Sri Lanka on April 2.
There were rumours that Gautam Gambhir wanted Vinay Kumar to be the bowling coach when it was established that he will be the head coach of India. Lakshmipathy Balaji, a former Indian pacer, was also mentioned in a few papers as the favourite. New rumours, however, indicate that BCCI is eager to have Zaheer Khan in the lineup.
Currently serving as the Mumbai Indians’ director of cricket, BCCI authorities are keen to benefit from his experience, especially because India will be playing in the ODI World Cup in South Africa and touring Australia, England, and New Zealand in the next years.
Vinay Kumar, who took 49 wickets while playing for the national side in 41 matches, is reportedly not on the BCCI’s radar.
“Zaheer Khan and Lakshmi pathy Balaji are being discussed by the BCCI for the role of bowling coach. According to a BCCI official cited by Hindustan Times, “BCCI is not interested in the name of Vinay Kumar.”
All of Dravid’s coaching team, including T Dilip, Paras Mhambrey, and Vikram Rathour, who oversee fielding, bowling, and batting, respectively, are all leaving. Though nothing is official, sources suggest that Abhishek Nayar is the front-runner to take over as the Indian team’s next batting coach. With his vast expertise, WV Raman, who previously applied for the head coach role in India, is a worthy candidate.

In the meanwhile, Jonty Rhodes is the front-runner to become the fielding coach. But according to a Cricbuzz rumour, T Dilip’s contract might be extended. Since every member of the support staff will be participating in the forthcoming away series against Sri Lanka, the board will shortly be inviting applications, and a decision will be taken within the next 10 days.
