Normally, a bowler who is removed would be extremely disappointed, especially if the ball is bowled through the legs, which is a highly humiliating kind of deception in cricket that is comparable to a nutmeg in football. But in the 29th game of the current Maharashtra Premier League, such feelings were not evident. At Pune’s MCA International Stadium, the Puneri Bappa and the inaugural edition’s winners, the Ratnagiri Jets, squared off.
The incident in question took place in the first innings’ ninth over. The left-handed hitter Azim Kazi of the Ratnagiri Jets, who were comfortably positioned at 63/1 in 8.2 overs, was dismissed in the process. With a delivery from right-arm over, leg-spinner Rohan Kharat forced Kazi to try a sweep. But with her yorking himself up, Kazi misread the execution and the ball got between his legs and knocked the stumps out. After this dismissal, Kazi left the game having hit two boundaries and scored 19 runs off 25 deliveries.
Famous cricket player Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is friendly with Kazi, chose a unique way to celebrate instead, playfully taunting the outcast batter. An exciting exhibition in the middle demonstrated how clearly Gaikwad showed his competitive spirit and excitement. Later, on his way back to the pavilion, the 30-year-old appeared to be grinning sarcastically, maybe in reaction to Gaikwad’s farewell gesture.
