Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League, has lately spoken out regarding the ongoing talks over the impact player rule in the competition. There have been differing views ever since the rule was introduced in 2023, and a number of cricket players have discussed it.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recently voiced their opinions, claiming that the impact player rule severely favours batters and hinders the development of all-round players.
Arun Dhumal, however, came up to say that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has several competitions where a player can excel and that the IPL is not the only venue accessible to players to demonstrate their talent.
Is the task of creating all-around players (lies) limited to this particular tournament? More than 2,000 cricket matches are held annually by the BCCI, giving players a platform to display their skills. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the U-16 and U-19… There are a ton of competitions. As you can see, the team still features all of the top all-around players. Therefore, in order to be on the team, you must improve as an all-around player, Arun Dhumal told RevSportz.
I don’t get the purpose of this chat: Arun Dhumal
Dhumal also said he was perplexed by the talk surrounding the impact player regulation and that the future shareholders’ meeting will be the appropriate forum to discuss whether or not the rule will remain in place.

“I don’t understand the purpose of this conversation. Do they desire impact players that have a big impact, minimal impact, or none at all? An impact player cannot have no impact; we will talk about this with all parties involved (about the rule staying). Will also observe their opinions and comments. We shall act in the best interest of the players and franchises by doing what is optimal for the event. Whatever is best for the event, we will do it in the greater benefit of the game, Dhumal stated.
