Justin Langer, the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and a former Australian opener, has indicated his desire to lead the Indian men’s cricket team as their next coach. Rahul Dravid’s term is scheduled to expire following the ICC T20 World Cup in June, and the BCCI has stated that applications are being accepted for the position.
Many people have taken notice of the BCCI’s move to make the head coach position available. After assuming the role in 2021, Dravid’s performance in white-ball cricket has been inconsistent. The BCCI is doing everything in its power to select the most deserving applicant for one of cricket’s most prominent positions as Dravid’s contract draws to a close.
It would be intriguing if: Justin Langer
In response to a question regarding the open coaching position in India, 53-year-old Langer said he is intrigued by the idea.
“Well, I’ve never given it any thought, so I’m intrigued. Since I am aware of the pressures faced by foreign coaches, I have the utmost respect for them, but leading the Indian team would be an incredible responsibility. It would be fascinating, based on the amount of talent I’ve seen in this nation, Langer told TOI.
With the Australian men’s team, Justin Langer has had an outstanding time as their coach, leading them for over four years between 2018 and 2022. Following the Sandpaper controversy, he supervised their comeback and guided them to their first T20 World Cup victory in 2021. Praise was given to his man-management abilities and capacity to create a winning culture.
The former opener may also have an edge because of his past expertise managing the demands of coaching an IPL team like LSG. Despite LSG’s inconsistent performance, Justin Langer has learned a great deal about the demands and difficulties of playing high-stakes Indian cricket.
Justin Langer is a coach that the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee may want to give serious consideration to if they decide to hire a foreign coach this time around. As an opener, he has played in more than 100 Test matches and is familiar with the rigours of international cricket.
