Despite the fact that the Mumbai Indians (MI) have been ousted from the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) playoffs, Deep Dasgupta believes that Rohit Sharma needs to perform well in the remaining games to show his dominance. The 37-year-old hasn’t had a memorable season despite amassing 326 runs at a strike rate of 154.50 in 11 games thus far. In Dasgupta’s opinion, Rohit needs to perform better and, most importantly, demonstrate that he is still the main man in light of the next major auction.
In addition, the former cricket player requested that Rohit play for the Mumbai Indians’ honour. The five-time winners are currently bottom of the points table with just three wins in 11 games, despite boasting a powerful group that once appeared to be the favourites to win the tournament. Dasgupta is counting on Rohit to make a difference and support Mumbai in the remaining games.
“You are competing for your own pride as well as the pride of the team and yourself as a professional cricket player. You don’t want to participate in a game or provide a performance. You want to give it your all every time you step over the line’, Dasgupta said to Star Sports.
Don’t forget that the major auction is held the following year. All of the professional cricket players have these final few opportunities. “To at least put on a good show and tell everyone, ‘You know what, I am there,’ even if the team does not qualify,” the 46-year-old continued.
At the top of the order, he also establishes the tone: Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta also thinks that Rohit Sharma‘s return to form will benefit India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start on June 1. As the captain and the first player, he said, Rohit can set the tone, and he has been doing so for the previous eighteen months.
As the captain, he not only leads by example but also sets the tone for the team, which makes him an indispensable member of the group. He continued, “For the past year and a half, that is what he has been doing.
