Terror threats from a group in North Pakistan have surfaced ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to take place in the West Indies and the United States starting on June 2.
Prime Minister Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago revealed the threats, which led to the implementation of stringent security protocols and an endeavour to guarantee the well-being of both participants and spectators.
Recognising the problem, the International Cricket Council (ICC) moved quickly to strengthen security measures by collaborating closely with the host countries. According to Cricket West Indies, a thorough security strategy has already been put in place to handle any possible threats.
“To make sure the right plans are in place, ICC is collaborating closely with the host nations. The Cricket West Indies has assured everyone that a comprehensive security plan is in place to mitigate any risk. We spoke to the authorities as soon as the information appeared,” an ICC official told NDTV Sports in response to a question regarding the terror threat to the Men’s T20 World Cup.
We are still aware of numerous threats. Dr. Keith Rowley
Regarding the gravity of the dangers, Prime Minister Rowley spoke candidly. Known for its intense love of cricket, the Caribbean region is currently on high alert, with security forces and intelligence services working nonstop to create the required security arrangements.
Sadly, the threat of terrorism in all of its manifestations is a constant concern in the globe of the twenty-first century. In light of this, many countries, including our own, like to hold big or risky events with particular attention to national security planning and response readiness in order to treat all threats—whether stated or implied—very seriously, according to PM Rowley, who spoke to Daily Express.
It is practically impossible to entirely cut off all chances when bad actors can choose to transgress in any way that is feasible. But in order to lessen these risks, we at the local and regional levels have continued to be vigilant about a variety of threats, and either separately or in tandem, our intelligence and other security services are working to safeguard the populace in these nations and at tournament locations,” he continued.
