Former cricketer Aakash Chopra recently spoke out about the growing number of players who have failed to live up to expectations after being named in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
After India’s T20 World Cup roster was announced, Chopra emphasised Shivam Dube’s performance against Punjab Kings, after the ace all-rounder got out for the second straight golden duck.
Chopra observed the odd occurrence. Since the squad announcement, players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal have also not been at their best. The former opener discussed the previous match between CSK and Punjab Kings as well as Dube’s decline in performance.
“60 runs were scored in the first six overs of CSK’s batting invitation. All that escaped was Ajinkya Rahane. You experienced 60 in six, with 225 being the little ground in Dharamsala. But where was 225, really? Arriving, Rahul Chahar took two wickets in two balls, first off Ruturaj (Gaikwad) and then off Shivam Dube. What is going to happen to every person whose name appears on the Indian team? On his YouTube account, Chopra posted a video.
“In two separate matches, Shivam Dube has struck gold twice, once against spinners Harpreet Brar and once against Rahul Chahar. Rahul Chahar changed the course of the match,” he continued.
Chennai appeared to be losing momentum throughout the match, according to Chopra. Additionally, he praised all-round player Ravindra Jadeja for his tenacious batting to the very end.
“From that point on, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, whether it was Daryl Mitchell, caught by Harshal Patel, or Moeen Ali, caught by Sam Curran. Though Ravindra Jadeja persevered until the very end, Chopra observed that there was never any indication that this team was ahead in the match.
“The hitting seemed a little mediocre to me. The bowling was quite good. Each of Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel claimed three wickets. Even though Arshdeep took two wickets, the outcome remained the same. What is the status of every individual who was chosen for India? In a 167-run game, he gave up 10 runs every over,” he said.
