On April 30, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) released the Indian team’s roster for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The main tournament is scheduled to begin on June 2 in the USA and the West Indies.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the most prominent players included in India’s World Cup squad, which featured several other stars. The 33-year-old’s outstanding IPL 2024 performances earned him a spot in the squad.
In reference to his selection, Chahal stated that his inclusion in the Indian T20 World Cup squad was his “biggest achievement” so far. To be selected for India, he continued, everyone must play domestic cricket.
“My greatest accomplishment to date is that I believe I played in the West Indies in July of last year, but that was before I was called up to the Indian team. We play IPL, or domestic cricket, to earn a spot on the Indian team for the World Cup. India Today cited Chahal as saying, “I played domestic T20s and cricket keeps going on.”

It’s important to remember that Chahal last participated in an Indian T20I match in July 2023, while the team was touring the USA and the West Indies. Chahal was dropped from the team for the West Indies tour, even though he took five wickets in five matches. In the T20I series against Afghanistan earlier in the year, he was benched.
“I believe I played there in July of last year, but it was while I wasn’t with the Indian squad. The game of cricket continues, and I played domestic T20s,” Chahal continued.
With 13 wickets in nine IPL 2024 games, the seasoned spinner just became the first bowler to reach 200 in the IPL. Chahal is also among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers at the moment. His ability to maintain this form allowed him to be included in the 15-person squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
