Rehan Ahmed, a promising wrist spinner from England, has given captain Ben Stokes credit for the spinners’ performance on the current India tour. The third game of the five-game series, which is now tied at one, is scheduled for February 15 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Before the Test series against India, the trio of Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir had only participated in one Test match together. Between them, they have taken 26 wickets in two matches. Thus far, Rehan Ahmed has claimed eight wickets, while Bashir and Hartley have claimed four and fourteen wickets, respectively. Interestingly, it surpasses the experience of India’s starting lineup. Ahmed noted that in light of this, their style of leadership has helped them concentrate on their game rather than reminding themselves that they were playing against hitters who were really skilled against spin.
That merely demonstrates how fantastic the team atmosphere is. You’ve seen Tommy (Tom Hartley) and Bash (Shoaib Bashir) enter without showing any signs of nervousness, which is a credit to the team. We kind of forget who we are playing against because of the atmosphere and the leadership we have; instead, we concentrate only on our tasks at hand. It seems as though Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum are indifferent to the potential consequences. It’s always about maximizing the positive outcomes. Thus, it’s better to bowl four terrible balls and gain a wicket than to bowl 16 straight good deliveries, as Rehan Ahmed was cited by the BBC as saying.
Rehan Ahmed also mentioned how nice it was for Stokes to take a break for Friday prayers with Bashir and himself as the England captain.
“I recall a Friday team-building activity that took place in Abu Dhabi. On Fridays, we had prayers. Of course, Bash [Bashir] and I were present. We wanted to pray, so I messaged the team manager, Wayno [Wayne Bentley], to see if we could miss this day. Stokes messaged me right away, saying, “I completely understand. Come to me anytime you want to talk about this kind of stuff.” Indeed, he has kept his promise. He always shows me such respect and empathy when I pray. “This tour is for everyone,” he continued.
He really is the world’s best goalie, in my opinion. Regarding Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed
He continued by praising Ben Foakes, the wicketkeeper-battler who is largely responsible for the success of England’s inexperienced spin unit. Furthermore, Ahmed has played with Foakes in all three of his Test matches since making his debut in December 2022.
“I’ve never seen someone as excellent as him. He is, in my opinion, the greatest goalie ever. He puts in a lot of training. I fail to see him missing any balls. His excellence is beyond words. After making a few of those catches [in the second Test], the game was 80–90 overs old. He said, “He’s still taking those kinds of catches, even though it’s really hot and humid.”
