The two champions from the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will square off to start the much awaited second season on February 23.
At Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the reigning champion Mumbai Indians and the runners-up Delhi Capitals of the previous season will square off. The commencement time of this meeting is 7.30 PM (IST). The Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz will square off in the second encounter, per the schedule provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Following the Eliminator on March 15, the top match will take place on March 17. The locations of the two games are Delhi.
The WPL 2024 schedule includes 22 matches, all of which kick off at 7:30 PM. In 2023, there won’t be a home-away structure, which is something that Indian Premier League (IPL) fans are used to witnessing. Three locations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai hosted events for the first season. In the meantime, Bengaluru and Delhi will host the upcoming season.
WPL 2024 will follow the same format as the previous campaign. The top three teams will advance to the playoffs following the round-robin phase. A direct admission into the championship game will be granted to the team that tops the table following the league stage. On March 15, the second and third-place teams will square off in the Eliminator.
The previous season’s champion Mumbai Indians, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated the Delhi Capitals in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium by a margin of seven wickets. Leading the Capitals, Meg Lanning ended with 345 runs from nine games at an average of 49.29 and a strike rate of 139.11, to top all scorers in the event. In the meantime, Mumbai’s Hayley Matthews won the Purple Cap after taking 16 wickets at an average of 12.62 and an economy rate of 5.94 in 10 games.
