On Thursday, January 11, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe SL vs ZIM will play the third and final One-Day International (ODI) in the current series. After the ODI series is over, both teams will play a three-match T20I series. Rain caused the series’ opening game to conclude in a draw.
Zimbabwe won the toss in the second Twenty20 International and chose to bat. In their innings, the third ball cost them their first wicket for a mere run. Craig Ervine and Joylord Gumbie put up 60 runs for the second wicket before Gumbie was removed after 30 runs off of 37 deliveries. Ervine and Milton Shumba shared another 53-run partnership for the third wicket.
Following Sikandar Raza’s one-run dismissal in the 26th over, Ryan Burl joined Ervine in the middle. Together, they put up 67 runs for the fifth wicket. With 82 runs scored off 102 deliveries, Ervine was the fifth batter to be removed from the game. In 44.4 overs, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 208 runs after losing their final five wickets for just 26 runs.
With four wickets for 31 runs in 9.4 overs, Maheesh Theekshana was Sri Lanka’s best bowler. Dilshan Madushanka claimed one wicket, while Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Vandersay each claimed two.
With just 53 runs from the first four wickets, Sri Lanka’s chase got off to a poor start. Janith Liyanage had some significant partnerships with other batters and was a decent middle infield player. Along with Sahan Arachchige, they shared a partnership of 37 runs for the fifth wicket.
After hitting 95 runs off 127 deliveries, Liyanage was removed from the game, denying himself a well-earned century. In the 49 overs, Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Vandersay helped Sri Lanka cross the finish line with an additional 39 runs for the ninth wicket. In his first-ever ODI five-wicket haul, Richard Ngarava displayed exceptional skill with the ball. Including two maiden overs, he claimed five wickets for 32 runs in ten overs. Because of his batting prowess, Liyanage was named Player of the Match.
