Sachithra Senanayake, a former off-spinner for Sri Lanka, is embroiled in a scandal after being detained on suspicion of match-fixing. The former cricketer turned himself in to the Sports Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit, which was a significant development in the ongoing legal case.
In particular, Sachithra Senanayake has been charged with trying to rig games in the 2020 Lanka Premier League (LPL).
He allegedly used a telephone connection from Dubai to coordinate match-fixing plans with two other cricket players. His once-respected cricket career has taken a hit as a result of these claims.
After looking into these grave claims, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court imposed a travel ban on Senanayake in August 2023. The action was taken when the Attorney General gave the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry the order to file charges against him.
