After scoring a century on her Test debut against the West Indies, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the talk of the town. At Stumps on Day 1, the cricketer was batting on 40*. The next day, he played some outstanding cricket to become one of the very few players to score a three-figure score in their Test debut.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra praised the 21-year-old for his outstanding performance and said that he can certainly go for his 200 because Jaiswal knows how to turn a century into a double century. In analyzing his performance, Chopra stated that the batsman from Uttar Pradesh was not afraid to take chances but also knew how to play traditional Test cricket.
“Let’s start by discussing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s playing style. This guy knows how to turn hundreds into double hundreds; therefore, even if he is currently playing on 143, I won’t be astonished if he also achieves 200. He displayed both sides of his abilities. He possesses the strength to play the reverse sweep and can take chances, but he can also take his time and remain at the wicket for a considerable amount of time. In other words, this guy is also familiar with the retro-test cricket strategy, Chopra remarked in a video posted to his YouTube account.
Yashasvi Jaiswal may present a long-term opportunity. Chopra
The 45-year-old said that taking chances is now ingrained in young cricketers, so he wasn’t particularly shocked to see Jaiswal do the reverse sweep in Test cricket. Even though the opener has a modern outlook, he also displayed a conservative attitude on Day 2, the commentator continued.
What more can you tell us about Yashasvi Jaiswal? Does the reverse sweep define him, or does the amount of time he gave himself while defending and center fielding throughout an extended stretch without any runs being scored define him? In my opinion, current cricketers are born with the ability to play big strokes, take chances, and effortlessly execute unusual shots. Therefore, the reverse sweep definitely demonstrates his mentality, but the performance on the second day convinced me that he can be a long-term possibility, Chopra said.
