The West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka all won both of their warm-up games for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier, beating the UAE, Scotland, and USA with ease.
Both the Netherlands and Nepal will be going into the group rounds with wins. The Netherlands beat Ireland, and Nepal beat Oman.
Powell leads the West Indies to victory.
When the West Indies were down to 198-7 in the middle of their game against the UAE, Rovman Powell’s quick century helped them get back on track.
Nicholas Pooran‘s score of 74 had put the Windies in a strong situation before they lost three wickets in nine balls.
But Powell and Keemo Paul put together 139 runs for the eighth wicket. Powell was finally out for 105 runs in just 55 balls, and the Windies scored 374 runs for nine wickets.
Basil Hameed was the only UAE player to score a hundred. He played hard and got to 122 not out, but his team lost by 114 runs.
Yannic Cariah was the West Indies’ best bowler again, taking four wickets for 58 runs. This was on top of the four wickets he took in the first warm-up game.
After a big win by Scotland, Zimbabwe is now 2-0.
Brandon McMullen was one run short of a half-century, but Scotland was bowled out for 163 runs after the hosts, Zimbabwe, gave them the bat.
The right-hander and Matthew Cross scored 47 runs together before Brad Evans bowled Cross for 32. This was the most runs scored by any pair in an innings.
McMullen couldn’t make another pair before Ryan Burl got rid of him for 49. Late cameos from Jack Jarvis (26) and Christopher McBride (20) got Scotland over 150.
Zimbabwe then chased down the low score in 25 overs, with six wickets left over.
Joylord Gumbie and Craig Ervine both scored 37, and Sikandar Raza got 44 from 28 balls. Michael Leask’s two quick wickets didn’t stop the scoring for long.
Karunaratne’s hundred sets up Sri Lanka’s significant victory.
Dimuth Karunaratne had a great hundred as Sri Lanka beat the USA with a score of 392 for 5 after 50 overs.
In the seventh over, Kusal Mendis joined Karunaratne at the crease. At the time, Sri Lanka was 39 for 1 and Karunaratne was at the crease. The two then put together a 191-run combination that helped the Lions get a big score.
Mendis was out for 105 after getting to 91, and Karunaratne retired not out on 111 after 100 balls. This gave Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka time to hit well in the middle of the order, and they put together 112 runs for the fifth wicket.
After losing both of their openers for just 10 runs to start their response, the USA got back on track thanks to Monank Patel. He made 68 runs before Matheesha Pathirana took all three of his wickets in one over, putting the USA on 106 for seven.
Usman Rafiq was run out, leaving Shayan Jahangir on 63 not out and the USA 198 runs behind.
Barresi leads the Dutch to victory.
Ireland was knocked out for 193 in the 40th over. Harry Tector, who scored a century against the U.S. earlier in the week, was one of seven players who didn’t score more than 10 runs. This was because Scott Edward’s team shared the wickets.
At 58-5 in the 20th over, Gareth Delany helped Lorcan Tucker get back on track by scoring 46 runs in just 25 balls. Gareth Delany then became Shariz Ahmad’s second wicket.
Edwards successfully caught Tucker for 74 off of Clayton Floyd’s ball. Three balls later, Craig Young was out to Saqib Zulfiqar, ending Ireland’s game too soon.
Wesley Barresi’s 90 helped the Netherlands win. He and Max O’Dowd put up 89 runs for the second wicket, but Ireland did not give up easily.
Three balls after O’Dowd was out, Ben White also got rid of Noah Croes. White took five wickets for 61 runs, bringing the Netherlands’ score down to 114 for six in the 19th over.
Barresi was out 10 runs short of a century when he was caught, but Aryan Dutt and Logan van Beek quietly scored the rest of the runs to help the Netherlands win by two wickets.
Nepal kept winning and beat Oman.
Captain Zeeshan Maqsood saved Oman when they were down to 7 for 4, and he went on to make a run-a-ball century.
Maqsood and Shoaib Khan worked together to steady Oman. They scored 84 runs for the fifth wicket, and then Maqsood and Ayaan Khan scored 115 runs together.
The left-hander was out for 109 when Sompal Kami hit him twice in the penultimate over. Khan was out in the last over for 56, giving Kami a total of five wickets for 57 and putting Oman out at 267.
In response, Nepal got off to a good start. Opener Kushal Bhurtel hit 101 runs before leaving, and he and Bhim Sharki added 115 runs for the second wicket.
Nepal only needed one run to win, but Oman responded by taking three wickets quickly. Aqib Ilyas took four wickets for 42 runs before Sandeep Lamichhane hit a six on his first ball to win.
