Having recently held its first-ever auction, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 saw a significant number of players go under the hammer.
On Wednesday, June 14, the auction took place, with all five franchises contributing a total of 94 participants.
The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 is scheduled to commence on July 31, 2023, following the auction, and will feature notable players such as Babar Azam, David Miller, Matthew Wade, and many others.
Unsold international players were a recurring motif throughout the auction. A majority of franchises favoured Sri Lankan players, opting for homegrown talent prior to the championship tournament.
The Colombo Strikers recruited players such as Pathum Nissanka, Wahab Riaz, and Lorcan Tucker, to name a few. Dambulla Aura selected Dhananjaya de Silva, Hayden Kerr, Noor Ahmad, and numerous others.
Jaffna Kings recruited Shoaib Malik, Charith Asalanka, and Chris Lynn, while B-Love Kandy recruited Dinesh Chandimal, Mohammad Hasnain, and many others.
In addition, it is important to note that the Pakistani players were in high demand during the auction; despite the fact that a number of Pakistani players had already been pre-signed, a large number of others were recruited by franchises prior to the competition.
In addition, former Indian batter Suresh Raina, who was rumoured to be participating in the auction, was never summoned to go under the hammer, as new reports indicated he retracted his name.
In addition, the franchises spent a great deal of money on a number of players, so let’s take a look at the top five most expensive players at the LPL 2023 auction.
