Brampton, 13 June: After a three-year absence, cricket fans in Canada can once again anticipate thrilling matches in their own territory, featuring renowned cricket icons, as Global T20 Canada returns for a landmark third edition. This year, the cricketing extravaganza will return to Brampton, Ontario, with six franchises, including two new teams, the Mississauga Panthers and the Surrey Jaguars.
The marquee tournament will feature the Toronto Nationals, Brampton Wolves, Montreal Tigers, and Vancouver Knights, as well as the Surrey Jaguars and Mississauga Panthers, who joined the league this season.
The six franchises will compete in 25 contests over the course of 18 days, from the 20th of July to the 6th of August. The player draft for the most-anticipated T20 League in Canada will take place today, during which international superstars will also be disclosed. Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Shahid Aamir, Shoaib Malik, and Brendon McCullum have all been featured as marquee players in previous editions of the tournament.
Each squad will include sixteen athletes from full and associate ICC member nations. Six international players, including two marquee names, four players from Associate Nations, and six Canadians will comprise these rosters, delivering a diverse and action-packed cricket festival.
With Canada’s reinstatement to ODI status earlier this year, the Global T20 Canada is a crucial component in the development and promotion of cricket in Canada and North America. Canadian cricketers will be able to hone their abilities while competing against some of the world’s best players in the prestigious T20 League. In addition, the tournament will attract a new generation of sports enthusiasts.
Richard Berridge, CEO of Global T20, stated regarding the upcoming tournament, “This year’s tournament is expected to be larger and better than ever before. This edition welcomes the Surrey Jaguars and Mississauga Panthers.”
“We are thrilled for today’s Player Draft, in which a number of legendary marquee players will be selected. Berridge added, “We are committed to enhancing the player experience and engaging fans, and we are ecstatic for another exciting edition that will showcase the growth of cricket in Canada and beyond.”
