On Monday, the Madras High Court decided to hear the contempt of court petition of former Indian captain MS Dhoni against Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer Sampath Kumar. The court will hear the motion on Thursday, June 15, as contempt of court cases are only heard on Thursdays.
In response to the IPS officer’s remarks about the INR 100 crore defamation suit Dhoni filed in 2013 for being named in the infamous IPL betting scandal, the latter filed the complaint against Dhoni.
According to reports, the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, R. Shanmugasundaram, has permitted the 41-year-old to file his case petition. The Advocate General granted MS Dhoni permission after it was determined that Sampath Kumar’s remarks constituted scandalous court proceedings.
The betting and match-fixing bombshell was revealed in 2014, resulting in the suspension of several Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals players and franchises for the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons.
MS Dhoni claimed his fifth IPL title recently.
MS Dhoni has recently established himself as one of the greatest captains in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The 41-year-old accomplished one of the greatest comebacks as the Chennai Super Kings, who finished ninth in the IPL 2022 standings, won the championship in 2023. In the 16th edition of the tournament, the four-time champions entered with all weapons blazing and became five-time IPL champions.
With 17 points in 14 matches, Chennai completed the group stages of the IPL 2023 in second place in the standings. After defeating the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, Chennai became the first team to qualify for the championship match of the premier tournament, securing their spot in the knockout stages.
They faced the Hardik Pandya-led squad once more in the IPL 2023 championship match. The May 28 final was postponed due to inclement weather, which necessitated the reserve day. Chennai successfully chased down a revised DLS target of 171 runs in 15 overs to win the IPL 2023 championship.
