In light of Virat Kohli‘s recent form issues in Test cricket, Australian bowling great Glenn McGrath recommended that the squad focus on his emotional weaknesses in the lead-up to the Border-Gavaskar series. Concerningly, the 36-year-old has performed poorly in red-ball cricket this year.
It is noteworthy that Kohli has only scored one fifty to date, averaging 22.73. Recent setbacks for the former India captain were most noticeable during the New Zealand series, as he failed to reach double figures in four of six innings. McGrath cited a thorough examination of Kohli’s current problem.
Certainly, you have a lot of ammunition to support yourself, particularly after losing to New Zealand 3-0. According to McGrath, CODE Sports (via Fox Cricket) should put pressure on them to see whether they’re willing.
In addition, the Australian team’s strategy for dealing with Kohli has evolved. According to a recent statement by opener Usman Khawaja, the Indian great may make the others giggle, but once he’s in his zone, he eventually hits a tonne of runs.
“It’s a very different Virat now, so you can go and have a joke with him, (but) he still scores runs against you,” Khawaja advised cricket.com.au.
The player Virat Kohli is quite emotional.
Glenn McGrath also highlighted the psychological component of the forthcoming Test series, pointing out that Australia has a lot of ammunition after India’s recent 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Kiwis. If Kohli has a bad start to the series, he thinks this might be used to test his mental toughness.
It’s possible that he might lift if they take a hard line with him and he gets emotional during the argument. However, I believe that he is definitely under some strain, and he may sense it if he has a few low scores to begin with. I believe that he is a very sentimental player. McGrath continued, “He struggles a little bit when he’s down, but when he’s up, he’s up.”
