Mohammed Shami, an experienced pacer for India, has encountered yet another obstacle in his eagerly awaited comeback to international cricket. Injured following his outstanding 2023 ODI World Cup performance, the speedster was left out of Bengal’s roster for their forthcoming Ranji Trophy matches against Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
The 34-year-old, who finished the tournament as the top wicket-taker, has been dealing with an ankle issue since November of last year. Even if there have been recent indications that Shami is recovering, such as when he bowled hard during a training session watched by India bowling coach Morne Morkel, his match fitness is still a worry. Shami had been confident in his recuperation progress only a few weeks prior.
Because I can’t put too much strain on my body, I had been bowling intermittently with a half-run-up as well. I gave it my all once we agreed that I would bowl correctly. The results are good, and it felt great. I’m hoping to get back on track soon,” Shami stated,
Undercooked Shami should not be sent to Australia, says Rohit Sharma.
With regard to the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in particular, the defeat has wider ramifications for Indian cricket. Additionally, Indian captain Rohit Sharma spoke candidly about the team’s hesitation to field an unprepared Shami.
The last thing we want is to ship undercooked Shami to Australia. Rohit recently stated in Bengaluru, “We are crossing our fingers.”
The five Test matches on the Australia tour include a day-night match at Adelaide Oval. The series begins in Perth on November 22 and ends with the legendary Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the customary New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3–7.
