Ratan Tata, the renowned Indian industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons, died at the age of 86 following a protracted illness. Tata was receiving care in the south Mumbai Breach Candy Hospital after spending many days in intensive care due to health problems associated to aging.
Tata responded to apprehensions regarding his health on social media earlier this week, telling people that his check-ups with the doctor were regular and asking them to refrain from disseminating false information.
In the meantime, he oversaw the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012, turning it into a worldwide giant valued at more than USD 100 billion from a mostly domestic business. Under his direction, Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover were among the multinational corporations that Tata purchased.
He continued to serve as chairman emeritus for a number of Tata firms after stepping down as chairman in 2012. A well-known philanthropist, Tata was bestowed with many accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, two of India’s highest civilian distinctions.
Tata was renowned for his passion for sports, especially cricket. The assistance given to Indian cricket and its players by the former chairman of Tata Sons was invaluable. Social media was used by the cricket community to share their sorrow on the passing of the industry icon.
Celebrities including Shikhar Dhawan, Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammed Shami, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and many more paid their respects to the deceased industrialist.
“Man has a golden heart. Rohit Sharma wrote, “Sir, you will always be remembered as someone who genuinely cared and lived his life to make everyone else’s better.”
