"You're a Test Player," Brian Lara told Harry Brook when he promoted him as SRH's opener against KKR.

With the exception of one innings against KKR in which he smashed a sensational hundred, Harry Brook has struggled to get moving in the Indian Premier League 2023. In the third match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, the 24-year-old was promoted to open the innings after failing to perform in the middle order.

Brook played a brilliant innings of 100* off 55 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes, as he opened for the second time in the tournament. Brook revealed that SRH head coach Brian Lara was aware that, as a Test player, he could confront the swinging ball prior to his promotion up the order.

“He [Brian Lara] told me, ‘You’re a Test player,'” Brook stated. “He knew I could adapt to the swinging ball and confront it head-on. So he sent me to the peak. Brook told ESPNCricinfo, “I had never scored a hundred before my second game.”

The England international was acquired by the two-time IPL champions for a staggering INR 13.25 Crore at a mini-auction held in December 2022; consequently, his performance has been subjected to intense media scrutiny. Other than his century, Brook has scored only 63 runs in seven innings. As a consequence, was demoted in SRH’s last match against Delhi Capitals following three failures at the top of the order following his century.

I’ve temporarily quit social media: William Brook
Brook stated that he was ecstatic to silence his trolls following his spectacular century against KKR. However, they have returned once more following his four consecutive failures. The adolescent disclosed that he has quit social media to combat the persistent cyberbullying he endures.

“It’s among the most difficult parts. When you have nothing to do, you’re in a hotel, and you don’t get out as much as you do at home, you find yourself using your phone frequently. It’s nothing but keyboard combatants at their finest; it’s useless. I’ve quit social media for the time being. He added, “Hopefully, this will make a difference.”

The fact that he struggles against spin was cited as one of Brook’s main technique flaws by the experts. However, he has only encountered 45 spin balls this season.

“When I’m in the middle order, I’ve faced fewer opponents than typical. However, India is renowned for producing excellent spinners, which presents a distinct challenge,” he added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are currently tenth in the IPL standings with three wins from eight games, are hoping that Brook will ignite in the second half of the competition and lead them to the playoffs. On Thursday, May 4, SRH will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
