Shane Watson, assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals, believes that the team has a lot to play for against the Chennai Super Kings in their final league game of the IPL 2023 season. Notably, the David Warner-led side has already been eliminated from postseason contention, but the match will still be of great importance because they can spoil CSK’s playoff chances and finish higher than the currently-last-place Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The former Australian international stated that DC’s young players have matured well and that he expects them to perform at their best in the forthcoming editions of the lucrative league.
“We have a great deal to play for as a franchise and as individuals against CSK.” We hope to perform exceptionally well and acquire confidence from our victory over Punjab Kings.During this season, the junior Indian batters have made great strides and developed significantly. We have been assisting individual athletes to develop as quickly as possible. This year has been instrumental in the development of the younger players; hopefully, we’ve set them up for the forthcoming seasons,” Watson said in the pre-game press conference.
Prithvi Shaw was one of the most disappointing aspects of DC this season: Watson
In his return to the starting lineup against Punjab Kings, the youngster Prithvi Shaw performed well, scoring 54 runs off 38 deliveries. He set the tone for DC’s eventual 15-run victory over the Shikhar Dhawan-led team. In analyzing Shaw’s performance over the duration of the 16th edition of the tournament, Watson noted that the opener was subpar for the majority of the competition, but after a break, he returned with more vigor.
“Prithvi Shaw was one of the most disappointing aspects for DC this season. He is one of the most aesthetically pleasing batters to witness, and he is able to overcome the best bowling with his skills and the knowledge that we gave him a long time to find his feet. We also knew that he had been somewhat inconsistent over the past few years, but missing a few games really helped him focus on the direction he wanted to take. Watson had stated, “Because he is so skilled with the bat, he must bring all aspects of the game together.”
