Star England batsman Joe Root said it was a wonderful pleasure to spend a lot of time talking about Test cricket with Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara while playing in the current season of the Indian Premier League. Prior to The Ashes 2023, Root thinks their suggestions can benefit him against Australia because England is eager to reclaim the urn.
The middle-order batter continued by saying that while he has improved his white-ball techniques, talking to both past and present players has been extremely helpful. Notably, Root has only appeared in two games for the Rajasthan Royals during the current IPL 2023, but he has not yet had the chance to bat. On May 11, he was seen bowling in a match at Eden Gardens against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
“I absolutely enjoyed it, it’s been amazing. It’s been a little odd, but I’ve had some very nice and fascinating discussions about Test cricket with coaches and ex-players out here. I spent a couple hours talking to Brian Lara about batting, and it was incredibly instructive. I believe that at this point in my career and where I now am as a player, talking to other players and considering how I may improve my own game will be the best ways for me to grow.
The opportunity to discuss Test cricket with Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, and other current players is priceless, Root was quoted as saying by Mirror. “You come here and try to develop parts of your white ball game, and to be around T20 cricket has been amazing,” Root was quoted as saying by Mirror.
The 32-year-old has announced that he will be eligible for selection for the lone Test match against Ireland in the meantime. He was clear that he would be arriving on time even if Rajasthan Royals made it to the finals.
