On Friday, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced the venue and schedule for the qualifiers and finals of the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League. Notably, Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, which are scheduled to take place on May 23 and 24, respectively, will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, while Qualifier 2 (May 26) and the all-important final (May 28) will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Notably, this will be the second consecutive year that Ahmedabad has hosted the grand finale. The Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final of the 2022 edition of the competition. In 2023, they will have the chance to repeat the feat and become the third team in the competition’s history to claim the trophy in consecutive years.
Notably, the reigning champions have won three of their first five matches, placing them in fourth place on the IPL Points Table. The Rajasthan Royals are currently in first place, while the Lucknow Super Giants are in second. Delhi Capitals, who have lost their first five matches, are currently at the bottom of the table with two points, while Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are eighth and ninth, respectively, thanks to their two victories.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are third on the points tally, while Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings are fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, with six points each. Notably, if Chennai qualifies for the semifinals, MS Dhoni could play his final professional game at Chennai’s historic MA Chidambaram Stadium.
