In the last league game of IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans starter Shubman Gill helped his team beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets. They were trying to get 198 runs and were up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. Notably, when the home team batted first, they lost a couple of wickets early on, but Virat Kohli was in charge and hit his second hundred in a row in the event. Because of his great hitting, RCB put up a score that could be defended, but Gill’s amazing cricket in the second innings completely changed the way the game went.
Former India cricket player Sunil Gavaskar praised the Punjab-born bowler for hitting a century when he was under a lot of pressure. He also said that the bowler played some amazing games on Sunday (May 21). To bat better than Kohli, you need talent, and the 73-year-old thinks Gill has that.
“We should talk about Shubman Gill’s hitting, since he got a hundred when he was under a lot of pressure. I don’t think we should worry about the pick for T20 because the next T20I is more than a year away, at least in terms of the World Cup.
“So I don’t think we should worry too much about it, because what that man Shubman Gill did yesterday (Sunday) was just amazing. “It takes something special to bat better than Virat Kohli, and that’s what he did,” Gavaskar said, as reported by India Today.
Shubman Gavaskar thinks Kohli was trying to play a bold style of cricket, which was great because it was more about power hitting, but Gill was all about being elegant in the middle. Gavaskar also said that Gill is the future of Indian cricket and that the management should start to pay attention to him.
“Kohli’s innings earlier was amazing, really great. Even though it was more about hitting hard, Shubman Gill did it so smoothly and elegantly that he never put a foot wrong. It was just a perfect hit. I think that’s what we should be talking about more than whether or not Kohli should be on the team. Gavaskar added, “I think now is the time to look to the future, and Shubman Gill is that future.”
So far in IPL 2023, the 23-year-old has hit 680 runs, which puts him in second place in the race for the IPL Orange Cap.
