In July, Scotland and Papua New Guinea (PNG) will host the Europe and East Asia Pacific (EAP) Regional Finals, respectively, on the route to the biggest-ever Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.
Twenty teams will compete for the ultimate prize in Twenty20 cricket in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in June 2024. Qualification for the event began in 2022; these events represent the final step in the qualification pathway.
The Europe Regional Final will be held in Scotland from 20-28 July, with the hosts competing alongside Austria, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Jersey, with the top two nations qualifying for the world championship.
The EAP Regional Final, which will take place from 21-29 July, will feature Japan, the Philippines, Vanuatu, and hosts Papua New Guinea, with only the winner qualifying for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Africa and the Americas will host their respective Regional Finals in the fourth quarter, while the venue and dates for the Asia Regional Final will be announced in due course.
Toby Bailey, interim head of performance for Cricket Scotland, stated, “Hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Regional Final is a tremendous opportunity for Cricket Scotland.” We are excited to host one of the largest European regional tournaments ever, and after a successful series against New Zealand last summer, we are pleased to deliver more world-class cricket to our home fans.
“The squad is already working hard to ensure that we enter the Qualifier fully prepared, and we are eager to qualify for the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.”
Rob Gomm, the EAP’s acting regional development manager, stated, “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup EAP Final is the largest event the EAP region has ever witnessed, with direct qualification to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at stake. Each team has earned the right to compete for the opportunity and will undoubtedly give their absolute finest performance on the big stage.
“I would like to extend my best wishes to Japan, the Philippines, PNG, and Vanuatu for the event, and thank Cricket PNG for hosting what will undoubtedly be an incredible event.”
