On May 3, 2023, at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batsman Marcus Stoinis for a mere six runs off four deliveries in match 45 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
MS Dhoni made the correct decision at the toss, electing to field first on a slower surface in Lucknow. The visiting team took three wickets during the powerplay, limiting LSG to 31 runs.
Soon after the powerplay, captain Dhoni passed the ball to all-star all-rounder Jadeja for the breakthroughs, and the move paid off as Jadeja quickly sent Stoinis back to the pavilion. On the fifth delivery of the seventh over, Jadeja bowled a fullish ball outside the leg stump with reasonable flight and tremendous turn, which crashed into the off stump to dismiss Stoinis.
The LSG all-rounder appeared stunned by Jadeja’s turn on the delivery and ultimately returned to the dugout after scoring only six runs off four balls as Jadeja took his first wicket. Manan Vohra and stand-in captain Krunal Pandya were dismissed for 10 and 0 runs, respectively, by Maheesh Theekshana, putting LSG in a precarious position.
Meanwhile, the host team was defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a low-scoring match on Monday, May 1. With five victories and 10 points, they are presently third in the IPL Points Table. After losing to CSK by 12 runs in the first meeting on April 3, LSG will strive to put their best foot forward.
