Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has criticized the weak batting performance of Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). His lackluster performance with the bat contributed to DC’s five-game losing streak in the IPL 2023. The 23-year-old batter appeared in six games for DC but tallied only 47 runs, including two triples.
Doull criticizes Prithvi Shaw, asserting that the juvenile batter is unfit. According to the New Zealander, the starting batsman has paid the price for his sluggishness on the field. Notably, after consecutive failures, the top-order batter was removed from Delhi’s batting lineup against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, April 24. Delhi won the game by seven runs.
“You cannot proceed along the same path. If something is not working, you must make adjustments, and he must know where he stands in his game. Currently, it is simply insufficient. Warner was involved in an incident involving a run-out situation in Bangalore.
“He sat on the back of the bench the entire time Delhi was batting, doing nothing, and when he came out he was sluggish with his running.” These insignificant aspects of the game can sometimes come back to torment you. He has had a disappointing season, and I do not believe he is fit or has made any adjustments to his game. “He has paid his dues,” said Doull to Cricbuzz.
Warner expects Shaw to return more formidable
At the toss, DC captain David Warner announced that under-fire batsman Prithvi Shaw would be rested in favor of other options. On the other hand, the Australian opener expressed confidence in his teammate and anticipated that he would soon return to the starting lineup.
In the 34th match of the IPL 2023, Delhi defeated SRH by seven runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. In the current IPL season, this was DC’s second victory. They are presently at the bottom of the IPL 2023 points table with four points.
