With the highly anticipated Ashes series between England and Australia just around the corner, both teams would be eager to field their finest lineups and attempt to win the prestigious series. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, presently holds the urn after a 4-0 victory in the Ashes 2021-22.
With the series scheduled to commence on June 16, England’s preparations for the Ashes have already been rocky. Ollie Robinson, age 29, was the most recent athlete to suffer an injury. The pacer was ruled out of Sussex’s game against Glamorgan due to an ankle injury. During the morning session, he bowled eight overs before sitting out for the remainder of the day.
Robinson was the third player to sustain an injury prior to the Ashes, following pacer James Anderson and Jofra Archer, whose forearm was fractured. Robinson’s ankle issues could pose a significant challenge for the team led by Ben Stokes before the English summer.
A one-off Test match between England and Ireland is scheduled to commence on June 1 prior to the Ashes. Anderson’s participation in the one-off Test was already in question, and now Robinson’s participation is also in serious doubt.
He will be scanned on Monday to determine his condition: Paul Farbrace, the manager of Sussex
Following the injury to the 29-year-old pacer, Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace commented on the situation. The coach minimized the severity of the injury. However, Robinson was recently observed using crutches, causing fans to speculate about an ankle injury.
“He has a painful ankle, and he will be scanned on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. We knew it was tender yesterday, which is why he only had one spell this morning. We were aware that he was in pain, due primarily to his movement. It is walking, not sprinting, that causes discomfort. The decision was made jointly by our medical team and the England medical team, Paul Farbrace told The Mirror.
