Josh Inglis won’t be able to play in the second Test against England at Lord’s because he is going home to have his first kid. Instead, James Peirson will take his place. Inglis will join the team at a later time, but the specifics haven’t been decided yet. Peirson, on the other hand, was recognized for his hard work and consistency in the Sheffield Shield over the last three years.
Since the start of the 2020-21 season, the 30-year-old has hit 1337 runs at an average of 37.13 and got five centuries. So, he’s in great shape right now, but since Alex Carey is still around, it will be hard for the cricketer to get into the starting XI.
Peirson has recently played for Australia A on two tours, and in 2022, he made a century against Sri Lanka. He has been a part of things for a long time. In recent weeks, he has also been working with the main team. Now, he will finally get to play for Australia in the upcoming Ashes 2023.
The stumper-batter, on the other hand, said last year that he wanted to play for Australia in the Ashes. He was determined, and he still is, as he has said before that he would be very upset if he didn’t get to play Test cricket at all.
“It’s clear that there will be an away Ashes next summer. I’d love to go to England and play some kind of sports. I used to play cricket in the Premier League, but that was a long time ago. I would love to play in those conditions again and improve my game. If I don’t play Test cricket, that would be disappointing, but all I can do is sit in my seat when I’m done and know I did everything I could, Peirson told ESPNcricinfo last year.
On Friday, May 26, a number of Australian players will go to England, and by Sunday, May 28, the team will have to pick its final 15 players for the WTC final against India, which will start on June 7.
